An old weathered owl....

This is in my neighbors front yard. I love it when nature is incorporated into an art piece. Especially when it is only slightly modified.

How cleaver when a dead tree is turned into an outdoor sculpture. Love it!

A Towering Sculpture!

This completely cool tower was made from Ash trees that succumbed to the Emerald Ash Bore. They burrow between the bark and the base of the tree and worm around in wiggly patterns that eventually kills the tree.

Wendel Heers constructed this piece from dead trees. He used a crane to put the pom on the top. I had the pleasure of viewing this piece up close. I crawled into the piece an took photos looking up. I got to view the bore paths up close. It was amazingly beautiful!

Oh, and one last thing. The first three trunks were as tall as I!

An unusual find

I have the good fortune to live near wonderful places to hike. I came across this while walking in an area behind a friend of mines house.

If you look closely you can see that the ribs have been chewed off the spine. The other notable item is the area where the antlers connect to the skull. This is the only place that there is any fur remaining. It's almost like the deer is wearing a yarmulke. It's endearing and creepy at the same time.

I've always had an affinity for images of skeletons since I first saw a Georgia O'Keeffe painting. Skeletons are amazing and beautiful in so many ways; artistically, scientifically and structurally. This one made me a bit sad at first, but I grew to appreciate it's beauty.

Black Eyed Susan skeletons

Even in winter, the remainders of falls beauty remain breathtaking. I wish I had taken a close up of these. They really are gorgeous. Especially with their little snow capped tops! Look for beauty and it can be found in many places.

Wonderment in the Arb

When one wanders upon beautiful unexpected treasures it warms the heart. This is a big thank you to all who leave their mark in a positive way in public places for all to enjoy. I found this installation in the Arb a week ago and have been sharing my find with everyone who will listen. This is one of the reasons I love the Arb as much as I do. Art among nature is way cool.

Nature is art!

I took this photo early spring and just found it. I have acquired a taste for Red Bud trees. Every time I saw one, I wanted to capture it in a photograph. This was one of my favorites as it has the buds on the trunk, which I have not seen before. With each passing year I appreciate nature more and more. It is the worlds canvas. (Yea. I know that's corny, but I couldn't help it.)

A Garden View Like No Other!

Now here is a garden view that one has to be there to appreciate. This amazing structure is found in London at the Kew Gardens. It is 59 feet tall and 656 feet in length.

It was designed by Marks Barfield Architects to show how the treetop walkway enables visitors to enter the canopy of sweet chestnuts, limes and deciduous oaks to see birds, insects, lichens and fungi rely upon them.

As well as getting close to the trees, the structure promises a bird's-eye view of the site and the London skyline, including the Gherkin building and Wembly Stadium. That is when the weather and leaves agree to share their views.

Kew Gardens, which covers some 326 acres of meticulously manicured lawns, flower beds, green house, and forest, attracts more than one million visitors a year. At $25.50 (American) that's quite a bountiful harvest!
